About The Foundation Training
What differentiates the training & certification by the AoMT from other offerings?
Choose us if you want the whole thing — not just a recipe for a workshop, but the full capacity of THE LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® method. Train with us when you want to learn how to customize the method for any need and apply to any context. Join us if you want to be part of a global community, stay connected to the master trainers, and receive ongoing inspiration, guidance, and stewardship long after the training ends and keep your practice sharp, relevant, and alive.
What is the difference between attending the Foundation Training vs. a workshop?
Training: Focuses on teaching techniques for designing and facilitating solutions tailored to specific fields.
Why does it take 4 days to complete the Foundation Training?
What is the cost for the training?
Do I need to re-qualify?
No. The Foundation Training is the AoMT’s core certification necessary to use the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® method with confidence and integrity. Once certified, you do not need to re‑qualify. As you gain experience, you have the opportunity to continue developing your skills through our Community & Support Network or by joining our optional Post‑Foundation Training Program.
About The Trainers
What is the difference between master trainer, trainer and facilitator?
Master Trainer: within the Association of Master Trainers, this title is reserved for trainers who are qualified to train other trainers. Robert Rasmussen and Per Kristiansen hold this title because they created the original facilitator training programs, led the LEGO® Group’s global trainings from 2001–2010, and are the only people who have trained Trainers of Facilitators on the LEGO® Group’s behalf.
Trainer: is certified to deliver the Foundation Training to new facilitators. Becoming a Trainer requires substantial client experience with the method, followed by a rigorous 3–4‑year apprenticeship and final in‑person training with Robert Rasmussen and Per Kristiansen. Trainers are continuously supervised to ensure quality and consistency. Visit The Trainers to learn more.
Facilitator: is someone who has completed the Foundation Training and received certification from the Association of Master Trainers, qualifying them to apply the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® method in their own practice.
Can I also train new facilitators after I have completed the certification?
No. Certification qualifies you to work as a facilitator, not as a trainer. Becoming a trainer requires at least two years of substantial client experience with the method, followed by a rigorous 3–4‑year apprenticeship and a final in‑person training with Robert Rasmussen and Per Kristiansen. Trainers are continuously supervised to ensure quality and consistency.
About Post-Training Support
Why can I not see the content in the facilitator community?
This area is only accessible to individuals certified through the Association of Master Trainers. It contains a wealth of resources, including documents, videos, event listings, and community updates.
What are my rights for using the documentation and learning outcomes from the Foundation Training?
You are free to use the documentation and learning from the Foundation Training to design and deliver your own workshops with the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® method as a certified facilitator. However, the materials themselves must not be copied, shared, or used to offer facilitator trainings, which are reserved for certified Trainers within the Association of Master Trainers.

What is the AoMT’s relationship with the LEGO® company?
Since 2010, the LEGO Group’s involvement has been limited to producing and selling the specialized brick sets designed for the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® method. They do not endorse any programs or providers using the method and are not involved in facilitator training.
As there is no officially approved LEGO® facilitator training, it can be difficult to compare offerings. We recommend choosing a trainer authorized by the Association of Master Trainers to ensure you receive training, documentation, and ongoing support grounded in more than a decade of experience and aligned with the methodology described in Building a Better Business Using the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® Method.
What is the AoMT’s pro-bono program?
AoMT’s pro‑bono program brings the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® method to underserved groups at no cost. It reflects our belief that the method’s ability to spark creativity, dialogue, and shared understanding should be accessible to communities regardless of budget or circumstance.
